A large-scale woodcut that depicts abstracted water ripples.

This was my very first woodcut and I decided to go big with it.  The piece was created for an event known as BIG INK, which is comprised of a few talented printmakers, who travel the country with their large press “The Big Tuna.”  The event featured a group of crazy talented artists, who were all really helpful and supportive of each other’s work and practices.  This project would not have been possible without them, and I’m truly appreciative for everyone’s involvement.

This portfolio features various stages of this project’s development. Listed below are some supplementary details.

  • Initial Vector version of the finished woodblock print.
  • Early plotting stage.
  • Close-up view of the initial linework.
  • Initial carving of the woodblock.
  • Early phase in the carving process.
  • Mid phase in the carving process.
  • Final image of the carved surface.
  • Close-up shot, showing the depth of the carving.
  • Final printed image, hanging on the studio wall.
