A fusion fan art piece that features some themes from the popular film Red Dawn, and the popular brand of dish soap Dawn.

In this piece, I wanted to experiment and play around with the processes of oil painting and screen printing.  I used both processes very deliberately and had to constantly wait for the oil paint to dry before adding screen printed layers. Overall, I’m happy with the resulting work, and I’ve learned some important things to do and others to avoid.

This portfolio features various stages of this project’s development. Listed below are some supplementary details.

  • Final version of Red Dawn
  • Detail showcasing some of the highlights and reflections
  • Detail showcasing the text.  This layer was screen printed on top of the oil painting.
  • Progress 1: An initial layer was painted in oil and then the distressed lighter value was added via silkscreen.
  • Progress 2: Line work has been established and a flat red shape has been defined for the ‘soap’ of the image.
  • Progress 3: Highlights and shadow areas have been defined, as well as placement for the graphic on the bottle.
  • Progress 4: This marks the final stage before the image established a ground plane, details refined, and text has been added.
