A pun-based piece that acts as a homage to my childhood and playing video games.

Typically, when one hears the phrase “Princess Toadstool,” they think of the beloved and iconic princess that Mario was constantly rescuing from the clutches of Bowser in the popular Nintendo franchise Super Mario Bros. This piece simply takes a more literal approach to this common name and depicts a large toad, sitting atop a stool, adorned with a tiara and some pink lipstick. This is my take on Princess Toadstool.

This portfolio features various stages of this project’s development. Listed below are some supplementary details.

• Final printed version of the image. 8-Color Silkscreen Print.
• Initial thumbnail sketch spanning a few Post-It notes.
• A more refined sketch of the the princess.
• One of the many layers to create the bumpy texture and details of the toad.

This piece was definitely a challenge and taught me to not underestimate rendering of a ‘simple’ creature like a toad. There is a lot going on, on those little guys.
