These prints are the result of my ongoing exploration of the possibilities and limitations of the silk-screening process. The subject matter stems from my childhood, returning to fond memories of playing with these iconic video game characters. These graphics have been reimagined with the deliberate intent of over-engineering a very simple idea, resulting in a multi-layered work, and ultimately providing a framework or potential for a narrative. It is within this juxtaposition of simple elements to create complex imagery that I find to be most rewarding.
I view my work as an evolution or continuum, whereby elements from previous projects inform and influence the current work. These cannibalized ideas and abstract imagery have been fused and reconfigured into a figurative or representative object. Basic shapes and colors, no longer are independent elements, but rather are harmoniously interacting and influencing their surroundings. Through this image totality, these prints convey ideas of memory, personal identity, and nostalgia.
