A portrait of my friend and ex-college roommate, Andrew Haid.
In this piece, I explored some lighting effects and treatments of various textures. I used only hard based pencils (2H-6H) to keep on the lighter side, and to focus on subtleties instead of exaggerated contrasts. This piece marks one of my largest drawings, measuring 3 feet by 5 feet. It was completed over the course of Spring Break week. The illustration ended up winning a few art-based awards, and had the honor of hanging in the Hillman Library on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh for a year. Andrew would often sit by the piece there, with hopes that someone would recognize him.
